How to Transfer Your Website to a New Web Host?
There are many reasons for transferring web hosting services. The customer support of current web host is not satisfied. Your website has grown and current web hosting service can not fit your site’s need. The new web host you are going to sign offers better plan and cheap price. Your friend told you that his web hosting server runs fast. The reasons of transfer are various. Anyway you are planning to move to a new web host. How to make a safe web host transfer without any trouble? Here are some tips.
1. Understand your current hosting account cancelation terms
Every web hosting provider has account cancelation conditions. When you decide to move to a new web host, you need to know the cancelation process, like how to apply the cancelation, money refund payment method, etc.
2. Choose and sign with your new web host
You can do it before 1st step. There are many web hosting companies on the hosting market. Choose the best that exactly fit your website’s need. Don’t make transfer decision just for saving 1 or 2 dollars a month. Making sure you are going to get better services plan is more important.
3. Back up all of your website’s files
You probably don’t have completely files on your computer. Sometimes you change the site directly on your web server instead on your computer. You can use FTP utilities download all files from the server. If you use Dreamweaver or FrontPage for your files uploading, you can also use them to download files.
4. Upload all files to new web server
After you have sign up with the new web host and get confirmation from them, you can upload your entire website’s files to your new web host. If there are any scripts or databases for your site, it’s time to setup them.
5. Change domain name server (DNS) to your new web host
You need to contact your domain name registrar and change the Domain Name Server (DNS) information to your new host’s DNS information, like
ns1.your-new-web-hosting.com
ns2.your-new-web-hosting.com
Typically, it takes 24-72 hours to get the DNS record to spread to all the DNS
servers worldwide. During this time your site may appear to be up at times and down at others. It may also be visible for some and not visible for others.
6. Test your website on new host’s server
Now you have to double check the site on new web hosting to be sure it working properly. All links and function work. If it’s working correctly, you can cancel all your previous web hosting services.
