Is $4.95/mo dedicated server a scam?

Dedicated server hosting normally is an expensive hosting type compare to sheared web hosting. The average cost for medium level dedicated servers could be from a hundred dollars to few hundred dollars per month.

If a web host offers you a dedicated server with features as following, CPU: AMD 1800+, RAM: 256MB DDR RAM, HDD: 40 GB Hard Drive, Bandwidth 200GB, and the price is only $4.95/mo without setup fee, can you believe this? Do you think it is a scam?

ServerPronto offers $4.95/mo dedicated server. Yes, you are not wrong. It’s a dedicated server. You can find it on the right bottom corner of the home page of ServerPronto.com. But when you click to read more information about this, you will see,

"Our $5 PROMO Servers are provided on a wait list basis due to limited availability. The servers are not provisioned immediately, and you will be contacted when the server is available. Your credit card will not be charged until the server becomes available.".

I use online chat to ask about how long I need to wait to get the server. I was waiting 30 minutes to get my question answered. The sales person told me, "There is a waiting list and not everybody gets these servers. The management decides who gets them. You can place the order and wait if you get selected."

A web hosting Scam? I think so. You put an order on their server, but you even don’t know if you would get the server. $4.95/mo for a dedicated server, it’s too good to be true! I think that it’s just an advertising to attract people buy other servers they offered. I ask the sales person that how many people are on the waiting list, and what’s the percentage of the selected people; I didn’t get answer after 40 minutes waiting. I don’t think they want to answer my questions.
