Does HostGator Provide Backups?

According to HostGator’s TOS, HostGator is not responsible for files and data residing on your account. You take full responsibility for files and data transferred and maintain all appropriate backup of files and data stored on HostGator servers. HostGator backup service is provided to you as a courtesy.
HostGator creates their own weekly backups on the shared servers. However, you should not rely on this to keep your content safe. HostGator’s Backups made on every Sunday; and only the newest backups are kept. There is no guarantees about HostGator weekly backups to you. If you want HostGator restore your files using HostGator backups, you need to pay $15. If you can provide your own backup file, then it’s fee for the restoration.
Accounts found to be exceeding the 50,000 inode limit will automatically be removed from HostGator backup system to avoid over-usage. If you use more than 20 GB of disk space, HostGator will remove your account from their off site weekly backup, the databases will continue to be backed up.
You cannot schedule backups. HostGator does not supply a script which can backup your data.
You can download a full backup from HostGator cPanel, it’s easy to download and save the backup into your computer.
If you prefer to use FTP as an off server backup, you should be careful of HostGator’s TOS regarding to "file dumping" – A large number of files that are transferred from one place to another without any particular organization, as in copying media or backup files from your computer to HostGator server.
