Monitoring your website hosting uptime

When you choose a web hosting service, the most important factor you are going to see is network uptime. You hope your website will be available at anytime when your customers visit it. Most web hosting providers declare that they offer 99.9% uptime guarantee, some web hosts even announce 100% uptime. When I cross the web, I find there are many complains regarding web hosting uptime.
If I ask you what is the uptime of your website for last month, can you give me the answer? Most of you cannot give me the result, and you may have a question about how to know the website uptime. The best way to get your website uptime is to find a uptime monitor to track your site uptime.
There are many website uptime monitoring service providers. Some services are free. If you just have a simple website and want to check the uptime, the free monitoring service is good enough.
I use a free uptime monitoring service from basicstate.com. When you sign up a free account, the monitor checks your website every 15 minutes. The alert will be sent immediately by email or sms text message whenever my site has problems. I also get my website uptime performance report by email daily. You can add as many sites and users as you like. It’s a quick and easy way to track all your sites uptime in one place.
When you have monitoring uptime report, you know the performance of your web hosing. When you got too much downtime of your site and your web host always says the problem is at your side, show them the proof. Don’t guess your website uptime, and don’t let your web host fool you.

Nice post and some good points.
One thing to watch out is that you can have quick outages inside of the 15 minute period which you don’t see, or even a smaller outage that is seen as 15 minutes because of the monitoring.
Most important thing to check is what happens when companies breach the uptime. Most I know of require at least an hour of an outage before you can start to claim credits. Useless really.
