(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator StratITsphere (www.stratitsphere.com) announced on Wednesday that it has launched a new managed cloud service, Nimbus. Its new offering will leverage the company’s existing physical resources, according to the press release.

StratITsphere opened “Alpha”, its 95,000 square foot Texas-based data center in January 2011, and has space in two other data centers in Texas as well.

According to the press release, StratITsphere’s new solution will eliminate barriers to cloud adoption such as infrastructure costs, staffing requirements, long implementation times and security and availability concerns.

“We’re bringing together our other well-respected services to offer customers a superior cloud computing solution without the capital expense and long lead times of trying to build this level of quality infrastructure on their own,” Stephen Webster, president and CEO of StratITsphere said in a statement. “Nimbus is housed in our new best-of-class data center and managed by some of the top IT infrastructure and security experts in the industry.”

StratITsphere says its staff can set up the virtual servers or data centers in days rather than weeks, and can scale the infrastructure up or down based on customer needs. The team operates all backend functions so customers IT staff can focus on other internal matters, according to the press release.

“The problem with making your systems and data available anywhere is that it can make them vulnerable everywhere,” Webster said in a statement. “We’ve helped remove that weight by housing it at Alpha, and by having it watched over by the same team of security experts that protect the critical systems and data of Fortune 500 companies.”

According to the press release, Nimbus is run on CA Technologies cloud backbone software and housed on NetApp enterprise-class storage. StratITsphere partnered with Excitor to offer its Dynamic Mobile Exchange mobile platform to provide access to data and applications via mobile devices.

“Our customers need their data and systems to not only be safe but also constantly available to them,” Sean Curry, StratITsphere’s vice president and chief technology officer said in a statement. “So to make sure we maintained those high standards, we chose the best partner we could find so we could offer the best managed cloud services we could to our customers.”

StratITsphere says a benefit to using its cloud service is that customers know exactly where there data is stored, and Webster says customers are welcome to visit its Alpha data center at any time.

Recently, security firm Alert Logic moved some of its mission critical services into StratITsphere Alpha.
