(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — web hosting provider SoftLayer Technologies (www.softlayer.com) announced on Tuesday that IP solutions provider Global Crossing (www.globalcrossing.com) has deployed 14 new 10 Gbps dedicated Internet access ports.

This announcement comes a month after SoftLayer expanded the storage options for CloudLayer Computing Instances to include Local Disk Storage.

Global Crossing DIA connects enterprise networks to the Internet, according to the press release. The ports enable communication and scalable bandwidth for increased capacity when needed.

“At SoftLayer, our innovative virtual data center and hosting services depend on unsurpassed technology and technical execution to empower enterprises with global access, control and security,” Ric Moseley, vice president of network engineering at SoftLayer said in a statement. “Global Crossing provides us with reliable, scalable and secure global connectivity that satisfies our customers’ IP services needs.”

Global Crossing says DIA can be integrated with Global Crossing IP VPN or other types of transport services.

According to the press release, Global Crossing is a Tier 1 ISP and its network provides high levels of security through its National Security Agreement mandated by the US federal government. In a fact sheet on its website, Global Crossing says its total IP traffic increased 68.8 percent year-over-year from Q2 2010.

“Our long and fruitful relationship with SoftLayer continues to deliver value to customers,” Julie Masino, Global Crossing’s regional vice president for North America said in a statement. “We are delighted to be able to help SoftLayer provide customers with a superior Internet experience for their applications that can accommodate their business as it continues to grow.”

Earlier this month, Nexcess added Global Crossing to its data center in Dearborn, Michigan.

Global Crossing was acquired by Level 3 in the spring in an all-stock deal valued at $3 billion.
