(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Government cloud provider Terremark Federal Group (www.terremark.com) and its delivery partner URS Corporation’s IT business sector URS-Apptis (www.urs.com) announced on Thursday that its Enterprise Cloud: Federal Edition has been certified for compliance with Department of Defense security requirements. With this certification, Terremark Federal Group and URS-Apptis are certified to host a DoD application on Terremark’s IaaS offering.

The DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process is intensive, according to the press release, and involves stringent requirements for all IT systems that operate on a DoD network.

Carpathia and Equinix launched their joint services in February to provide cloud solutions to federal organizations and are certified to provide hosting solutions to meet DIACAP requirements.

According to the press release, the certification process requires Terremark and URS-Apptis to work with the DoD to configure, test and confirm that its enterprise cloud is secure and reliable.

The Enterprise Cloud: Federal Edition has been audited against FISMA to the moderate-level and NIST 800-53 for existing federal customers, Terremark says.

The federal-only cloud infrastructure is hosted at Terremark’s NAP of the Capital Region in Culpeper, VA and the NAP of the Americas in Miami.

“With our federal-only cloud platform being among the first shared infrastructure systems to receive DIACAP certification, we have once again proven the leading-edge nature of our secure cloud offerings,” Jamie Dos Santos, president and CEO of Terremark Federal Group said in a statement. “This certification helps to assure our current and prospective government customers that the cloud infrastructure we have designed specifically for federal agencies meets the high standards for security set by the DoD and provides the reliable cloud-based computing resources they need to run applications vital to their missions.”

According to the press release, URS-Apptis’ professional services, network and system engineering and software engineering capabilities have supported successful cloud migrations and deployments for various government agencies. The company also provides on-going management services to make sure the architecture and operations are delivered in accordance with agnecy certifications and SLAs.

”This certification is another important proof-point regarding URS-Apptis’ expertise and commitment to support government adoption of the cloud in a secure and certified manner,” Randall A. Wotring, president of federal services for URS said in a statement. “Our professional services offerings enable DoD and other government organizations to leverage the value of cloud in support of their mission while maintaining critical information assurance protections.”

In July, the Department of Defense issued a new cybersecurity strategy and outlined four major initiatives to deal with cybersecurity at a federal level.
