Web Host Go Daddy Celebrates Web Professionals Day
Posted By CheapHostingChoice
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — web hosting provider Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com) announced this week that it would be celebrating the fourth annual Web Professionals Day this Friday, a “holiday” created by the company in conjunction with the World Organization of Webmasters (www.webprofessionals.org).
Go Daddy says Friday, April 29, 2011 is the fourth Web Professionals Day, an occasion created “to honor all online professionals around the globe – the people who develop, run, refresh, secure and repair websites.”
The company will be hosting a party to clebrate the occasion in Scottsdale.
Go Daddy’s interest in celebrating web professionals obviously has a lot to do with the fact that they are the people responsible (quite often inside businesses) for buying its services. Over the years, the company has developed a reputation for some out-there marketing efforts, as well as some of the hosting industry’s most visible and traditional marketing (sports sponsorships and TV advertising, for instance). And there is a fairly strong American tradition of so-called “Hallmark Holidays,” those occasions with an overwhelmingly commercial purpose (such as bosses’ day and administrative professionals’ day).
The company’s press release quotes Bureau of Labor Statics predictions that suggest web development will be one of the five fastest growing industries in the next decade. More than 1.5 million people in the US are currently employed as web professionals. And research from IDC says two thirds of small and medium sized businesses currently employ a web professional in-house.
“There’s a bosses’ day [and] an administrative professional day. Why not a day to honor Web professionals?” says Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons, quoted in the press release. “The Internet is at the heart of the new global economy. Having a successful website is something many businesses didn’t have to worry about six or seven years ago. Those days are gone forever.”
Go Daddy’s press release doesn’t offer any specific suggestions for how to celebrate the occasion. A card is pretty de rigueur for these sorts of things, but you’ll probably have to fill it out yourself. Hallmark might not yet be producing cards for Web Professionals’ Day.
The company does advise that you can show your support by posting to Twitter with the hashtag #GDWebPro.
Information about Web Professionals Day appears to be gathered at the ironically pretty unattractive Web Professionals Day website, which also suggests coffee, lunch and flowers as appropriate gestures for the occasion.
According to the WPD website, Go Daddy’s party to celebrate the holiday is at the Microsoft store in the Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale, Arizona, from 2:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and will be giving away some great prizes.
